About This Role

This role is for a dedicated youth development professional who will provide quality care and supervision in before and after-school programs and camp settings. The counselor will ensure the safety and well-being of children, facilitate age-appropriate activities, and foster development in alignment with YMCA core values.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety and security of all children in the program at all times
  • Monitor children's activities for safe and age-appropriate behaviors
  • Conduct regular headcounts and maintain accurate attendance records
  • Implement positive behavior management techniques to promote a respectful environment
  • Implement a variety of age-appropriate activities based on YMCA approved curriculum
  • Adapt activities to meet the diverse needs and interests of all children
  • Follow all organizational policies and procedures, including health and safety, child protection, and confidentiality
  • Maintain a clean and organized environment, adhering to sanitation and safety standards
  • Maintain positive relations with children, parents, school personnel, directors, and other staff
  • Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations, ensuring compliance with mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • At least 6 months working with youth at a licensed facility, church, school or equivalent
  • Current record of tuberculosis examination and/or current local health department regulations
  • Ability to pass local/state background and FBI fingerprinting check

Nice to Have

  • Prior childcare or baby-sitting experience
  • Previous experience with diverse populations
