The Wildlife Technician 1 performs entry-level wildlife conservation work for the Tennessee Department of Wildlife Resources Agency. This role involves assisting with fish and wildlife population studies, operating and maintaining equipment, and conducting general forest and conservation activities.
Responsibilities
- Assist Wildlife Managers with studies of fish populations, including collecting fish by electro-fishing and collecting data from fishermen.
- Conduct forest and conservation work associated with seasonal activities, such as planting tree seedlings, fighting forest fires, and maintaining recreational facilities.
- Operate equipment such as forklifts, passenger vehicles, tractors, bulldozers, or watercraft.
- Service, repair, adjust, and test machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment based on mechanical principles.
- Assist in constructing and maintaining buildings, storage sheds, roads, bridges, and trails at assigned agency areas.
- Assist Wildlife Managers with wildlife population studies and plant and grow crops to feed wildlife.
Requirements
- Valid motor vehicle operator's license
- Ability to successfully acquire a valid commercial driver's license/endorsement upon appointment
Qualifications
- Experience equivalent to one year of fulltime wildlife conservation, forestry, farming or closely related work; qualifying coursework at an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
