About This Role

Perform skilled maintenance tasks for Dallas Water Utilities by testing and repairing water meters, ensuring accurate metering and addressing issues for customers. This role involves driving a City vehicle, completing paperwork, and working on nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled and complex maintenance tasks in water meter testing and repair
  • Evaluate and check water meters across the city to ensure accurate metering
  • Identify, determine, and address issues with meters through mechanical maintenance, repair, or adjustment
  • Exchange and adjust problematic meters, accurately report on issues and fixes
  • Test meters to ensure accuracy and functionality
  • Drive City vehicles to assigned areas for meter evaluation and checking
  • Assist technicians with challenging issues or concerns with equipment
  • Complete various paperwork regarding meter activities and technical work
  • Maintain safe driving and operating records

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1 year of experience in general mechanical areas (automotive/vehicle, small-engine, electrical, HVAC), general construction (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, concrete, welding), general maintenance (building, mechanical), or meter reading (any utilities)
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Ability to obtain a Class D Water License from the TCEQ within probationary period
  • Ability to obtain a Confined Space Entry certification from the TCEQ during probationary period depending on assignment
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Pass background investigation and drug test

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One (1) year of experience in general mechanical areas, general construction, general maintenance, or meter reading; or a current Class “D” Water or Wastewater License from TCEQ.
