About This Role

This role is responsible for the skilled and semi-skilled duties related to the reading and maintenance of water meters for the City of Port St. Lucie. This position ensures the accurate monitoring of water usage and supports the overall water distribution system, contributing to public trust and confidence in the City's Utility.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, read, and record water meter readings
  • Keep records of new meter installations and exchanges, and compute water consumption
  • Turn water service off and on as appropriate
  • Investigate abnormal water usage and collect 96-day usage reports
  • Install, replace, inspect, and maintain residential and commercial water meters
  • Replace meter boxes and/or lids
  • Clear debris from meter cases and improve device positioning for access
  • Perform duties as assigned through work orders and generate work orders utilizing computer systems
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment, reporting defects to supervisor
  • Assist in the maintenance of water valves pertaining to the water distribution system
  • Keep basic records and perform computer data entry
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from customers and the public
  • Respond to emergency calls during and after normal working hours
  • Assist in the training of new employees

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Florida driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Ability to pass a drug screening

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or acceptable equivalency diploma
