Veterinary Assistant

Join a dedicated team at a busy veterinary practice providing high-quality medical care to animals and exceptional client experiences. This role involves assisting in surgery, monitoring patients, performing lab work, and educating clients.

Responsibilities

• Obtain accurate and thorough medical histories
• Perform basic exam procedures
• Perform venipuncture/blood draws (cephalic, saphenous, and jugular)
• Perform digital radiology (X-ray) including positioning
• Monitor general anesthesia and assist surgically
• Provide post-operative care and recovery
• Perform laboratory skills including microscope (ear and fecal cytology) and automated in-house machines
• Educate clients on pet care
• Room patients and assist doctors
• Comfortably handle and restrain animals

Requirements

• Minimum 3+ years’ experience as a veterinary technician or assistant in a veterinary clinical setting
• Knowledge of industry tools and equipment
• Passion for working with animals and their owners
• Experience with proper animal handling and restraint
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to obtain accurate and thorough medical histories
• Ability to perform basic exam procedures
• Skilled in venipuncture/blood draws (cephalic, saphenous, and jugular)
• Able to perform digital radiology (X-ray) including positioning
• Comfortable with monitoring general anesthesia and surgical assisting, post-operative care and recovery
• Laboratory skills including microscope (ear and fecal cytology); automated in-house machines

Qualifications

• Minimum 3+ years’ experience as a veterinary technician or assistant in a veterinary clinical setting

Nice to Have

• Experience with exotics and pocket pets
