Veterinary Assistant

About This Role

Provide excellent medical care to Vetco Total Care hospital patients and phenomenal customer care to their owners. Foster cohesion and motivation within the practice, while ensuring the patient's needs always come first.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients, escort to exam room, obtain weight and vital signs, and record in electronic medical record
• Collect thorough patient histories and document patient visits in EMRs
• Assist doctors with appointments (routine and emergency), surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia under supervision
• Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications at veterinarian's direction
• Schedule appointments, provide client education, relay test results, and maintain client/patient records
• Help prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures and assist in anesthetizing patients
• Monitor patients safely under anesthesia while observing vital parameters and during recovery
• Perform in-hospital treatments for sick patients including injectable/oral medications and intravenous fluid therapy
• Keep patients clean, watered, fed, and safely walk canine patients when necessary
• Assist in the training of new staff members and general knowledge dissemination
• Keep hospital environment neat and clean; perform regular cleaning

Requirements

• At least 1-year previous experience in veterinary practice or relatable animal care
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Compassionate and sympathetic, maintaining professional demeanor during emotional situations
• Telephone and computer skills
• Team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and accept change

Qualifications

• At least 1-year previous experience working in veterinary practice or sufficient relatable animal care experience
