Vascular Access Tech

About This Role

This role is responsible for obtaining quality blood samples from patients of all ages, responding to medical emergencies, and ensuring accurate patient identification and specimen handling at Mayo Clinic Hospital campuses in Rochester, MN.

Responsibilities

• Obtain quality blood samples using capillary, venous, assisted line, and arterial collections with strict adherence to regulatory requirements and safety equipment
• Provide rapid response to medical emergencies
• Work at Mayo Clinic Hospital, alternating between Rochester Methodist Campus (RMC) and St. Marys Campus (SMC)
• Cover general patient care areas, pediatrics, the Emergency Department, the Intensive Care Units, and the Operating Rooms
• Ensure accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, handling, and transportation
• Perform accurate specimen testing using Point of Care (POC) equipment
• Utilize a variety of computer programs and systems proficiently
• Maintain patient confidentiality
• Interact with patients, nurses, providers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure high customer satisfaction
• Assist with training students and new employees

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Graduate of a Phlebotomy training program with clinical rotation OR three (3) months of Phlebotomy experience

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, and graduate of a Phlebotomy training program with a clinical rotation, or three (3) months of Phlebotomy experience
• Three (3) months of Phlebotomy experience required if not a graduate of a Phlebotomy training program with clinical rotation.
