Safely and efficiently operate a passenger van for public transportation in Madison County, following scheduled routes or responding to dispatch requests. This role involves assisting passengers, handling items, and coordinating with dispatch while maintaining vehicle readiness.
Responsibilities
- Operate a passenger van safely and efficiently
- Follow specific regularly scheduled routes or respond to unscheduled pick-up/drop-off requests
- Assist passengers in boarding and exiting vehicles
- Load and unload packages and other items
- Transmit and receive over the two-way radio system
- Coordinate with dispatch in scheduling passengers for the van
- Monitor traffic and weather conditions and notify dispatch of potential problems
- Report accidents or other safety situations to dispatch
- Report malfunctioning items or damage on a vehicle
- Inspect exterior and interior of the vehicle at beginning of each shift for proper operation and condition
- Ensure inside and outside of the vehicle is properly cleaned and fueled on an ongoing basis
- Keep interior of vehicle neat and orderly
- Complete driver sheet to document names and number of persons served
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Experience in the operation of a van or similar vehicle
- Knowledge of Madison County and surrounding areas
- Knowledge of safe and efficient operation of commercial vehicles
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local traffic laws and regulations governing commercial passenger vehicles
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Ability to push or pull a minimum of 200 pounds
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Experience in the operation of a van or similar vehicle
Nice to Have
- Ability to perform routine maintenance on small commercial vehicles and identify problems
- Knowledge of basic first-aid and/or CPR techniques
- Basic computer knowledge
