About This Role

The Unit Coordinator provides administrative support to clinicians and staff in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, organizing priorities, managing confidential patient information, and coordinating patient flow. This role acts as a liaison between patients, visitors, and clinicians, ensuring effective communication and outstanding customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Perform clerical and other administrative duties to support the floor or unit.
  • Greet and interact with patients, families, visitors, and coworkers professionally.
  • Receive, prioritize, organize, and manage information at the central nursing station and throughout the unit.
  • Schedule consultations, tests, procedures, and patient transport to other departments.
  • Enter accurate and timely information into the electronic medical record regarding admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Contact ancillary service departments to obtain equipment, services, and supplies, tracking status and facilitating repairs.
  • Assist manager with payroll duties or staff scheduling, or supervision of unit secretaries as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 2-3 years administrative support experience
  • Proficiency with office procedures and equipment (filing, copying, scanning, printing, faxing)
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Ability to proofread and edit written documents
  • Ability to use phone system
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with medical terminology

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required or Associate's Degree Related Field of Study preferred
  • 2-3 years administrative support experience required

Nice to Have

  • Associate's Degree Related Field of Study
  • Certified Health Unit Coordinator (NAHUC)
