About This Role

Conduct sonography examinations by preparing exam rooms and equipment, reviewing patient medical history, and ensuring proper capture of anatomical and clinical conditions. This role supports high-quality healthcare through innovation, education, and research.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct sonography examinations in accordance with infection disease, sterilization, and patient safety protocols and procedures.
  • Assume responsibility for the safety of the patient during the sonographic examination and implement Standard Precautions on all patients as per hospital policy.
  • Review patient medical history and supporting clinical information and medical records to verify physician's order prior to examination.
  • Ensure that the sonography examination order is complete, contains relevant information, and meets the standard of "medical necessity."
  • Inspect images for quality and monitor all images with respect to proper patient name, date, and medical record number prior to interpretation by Radiologist.
  • Assist with training of new technologists, technical assistants, and physician residents in all phases of assigned procedures as requested by supervisor/manager/director.
  • Demonstrate competency and observe safety guidelines when operating all specialized equipment in assigned clinical area; perform quality control procedures to ensure optimal ultrasound equipment operation.
  • Communicate with the patient in a manner appropriate to the patient’s ability to understand.
  • Apply independent judgment during the sonography examination to ensure that appropriate anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions are accurately captured in the examination images.
  • Perform advanced sonography services or other tasks (i.e., PICC lines, PVR's, ABI's, renal artery, interventional procedures, etc.) as delegated by the supervising physician.
  • Adjust to variable schedules and/or procedure techniques that may be required at times.
  • Report all equipment malfunctions to lead technologist / supervisor and clinical engineering immediately.
  • Maintain and stock room with proper supplies necessary to complete the ultrasonic examinations.
  • Provide a preliminary report (electronically or manually) of sonography examination for use by the interpreting physician and document any/all patient exam delays in EPIC "Tech Notes".
  • Demonstrate knowledge and proper use of computer programs, particularly the EPIC and SYNAPSE systems.
  • Complete exam data entry on all studies performed on a daily basis and ensure that all images were successfully sent to the PACS system.
  • Check business email daily, respond as appropriate, and attend monthly department staff meetings as scheduled.

Requirements

  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certified
  • BLS/CPR certification required
  • Graduate of an AMA Accredited Educational Program for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or equivalent
  • At least 4 years of clinical experience
  • ARDMS Abd or OB/GYM required

  • At least 4 years of clinical experience required
