About This Role

The Transporter position at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital is responsible for timely transport of acute, intensive, and critical care patients using various mobility aids. This role supports the interprofessional team in delivering high-quality patient care during transit, moving inpatients and outpatients to diagnostic, therapeutic, and discharge areas, while also assisting with patient fall prevention.

Responsibilities

• Transport acute, intensive, and critical care patients in a timely manner by wheelchair, transcart, stretcher or bed
• Move inpatients and outpatients to diagnostic testing, therapeutic areas, clinics, physician's offices, admissions, and discharges
• Assist with preventing patient falls by retrieving the Hover Mat/Jack, lifting and moving the patient to a stretcher
• Communicate appropriately and work closely with nursing staff and co-workers
• Deliver patient room furnishings (bed extensions, sleep chairs) and transport empty beds as backup duty
• Communicate delays to Nursing, Imaging, and other departments
• Orient and train new transporters
• Maintain adequate supply of transport equipment in lobbies and equipment rooms
• Dispose of soiled linen and other items left on transport equipment
• Report observations, conditions, and patient problems to licensed personnel
• Disinfect equipment before and after each use
• Transport and store oxygen tanks in approved holders

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent education preferred
• One year of customer service, patient transportation or nursing aid experience preferred

Nice to Have

• One year of customer service, patient transportation or nursing aid experience
