Registered Nurse II - Neurosurgery

About This Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) II provides professional nursing care to a diverse patient population within neurosurgery, conducting assessments, assisting with treatment, and educating patients. This role involves direct patient care, collaboration with the interprofessional healthcare team, and assuming leadership responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional nursing care to a diverse patient population, including those with varied and complex needs
• Conduct nursing assessments and assist with exams and treatment
• Provide patient education and maintain medical records
• Communicate and collaborate with physicians and the interprofessional healthcare team to coordinate quality care
• Demonstrate clinical competence in care provision, technology use, medication administration, and emergency management
• Act as a patient and family advocate to monitor and maintain patient rights
• Participate in or lead unit and shared governance initiatives
• Serve as charge nurse or preceptor to students or new employees
• Contribute to service line or hospital-wide initiatives in partnership with management
• Use therapeutic communication to establish relationships with patients, families, and healthcare teams
• Implement staff education specific to patient populations and unit processes
• Follow patient and family-centered care standards, practicing in a culturally diverse and inclusive manner
• Develop, update, and communicate plans of care, including discharge, in partnership with patients and the healthcare team
• Utilize clinical judgment and an evidence-based analytical approach to provide and modify care for complex patients
• Manage time effectively, timely document care, and prioritize daily tasks
• Identify and present areas for innovation, efficiency, and improvement in patient care or unit operations

Requirements

• Twelve months registered nurse experience in a healthcare environment
• RN - Registered Nurse - Texas State Licensure
• BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA)
• NIHSTROKE - National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification (AHA)
• Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language
• Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers
• Strong assessment, organizational and problem solving skills

Qualifications

• Graduate of education program approved by the credentialing body for required credential(s)
• Twelve months registered nurse experience in a healthcare environment
