This role is responsible for caring for, handling, and storing surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment for surgery and redistribution throughout the Medical Center. The specialist will also assist with team lead duties and maintaining competencies.
Responsibilities
- Decontaminate, disassemble, inspect, and lubricate all instrumentation, scopes, and equipment according to hospital policy.
- Assemble and sterilize instrument sets, endoscopes, treatment trays, and miscellaneous goods according to department standards.
- Select and prepare packaging material, labeling, initialing, and dating all prepared packages.
- Operate, check, clean, and troubleshoot equipment; perform chemical, mechanical, and biological monitoring.
- Accurately document all required information on sterilization records.
- Accurately pick all supplies, instruments, and equipment based on surgeon's preference cards for various cases.
- Deliver supplies and case carts to the operating room in a timely fashion.
- Dispatch telephone calls for the operating room for urgent supply needs and request assistance when necessary.
- Assist specialists with maintaining and updating par levels of all instrument sets, trays, and processed goods.
- Troubleshoot problems and maintain inventory of count sheets for instrument sets.
- Maintain productivity, set utilization/location by utilizing the SPM System.
- Properly store all instrumentation and supplies, rotating stock according to policy and procedure.
- Maintain all specialty instrumentation equipment, loaner sets, and scopes.
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness of the unit in accordance with Infection Control standards.
- Identify process improvement opportunities and work to address process and workflow issues.
- Maintain individual record for proper completion/accrual of Continuing Education Credits (CEU's).
- Schedule staff to complete mandatory net learning and unit-based competencies and maintain these records.
Requirements
- Completion of Central Sterile Processing Program
- High School or GED
- CS Technician or instrumentation experience
- Certification in Central Sterile Technician (CRCST)
- Advanced analytical ability to identify and perform minor repairs on instrumentation
- Ability to work in a fast paced and stressful environment
- Organizational skills
Qualifications
- Completion of Central Sterile Processing Program, High School or GED.
- CS Technician or instrumentation experience
Certifications
Certification in Central Sterile Technician (CRCST)
