About This Role

Tutor university students in various STEM disciplines, including mathematics, physics, chemistry, and accounting, and assist with the general operations of the tutoring center.

Responsibilities

  • Tutor students in one or more STEM disciplines: first- and second-year mathematics, general physics, general Chemistry, and/or accounting
  • Work on examples to illustrate appropriate use of concepts
  • Encourage students to use class notes and other resources to complete assignments
  • Demonstrate the use of calculators, both graphing and non-graphing, and relevant software for the discipline
  • Assist in the general operation of the tutoring center

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in a minimum of six (6) credit hours to qualify as a student worker
  • Must be currently enrolled at UNG with at least 6 credit-hours
  • A GPA of at least a 3.0
  • A grade of A or B in the introductory sequence required for the major of the tutored subject (e.g., CHEM 1211/1212, PHYS 2211/12, MATH 1111 and MATH 1113)
  • Competency of subject matter tutored
  • Proficient with Microsoft software and graphing calculators
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to help students by providing prompts and clearing up misconceptions

Qualifications

  • STEM Peer Tutor Experience

Nice to Have

  • A grade of A or B in higher-level courses preferred (e.g., MATH 1401, MATH 1450, CHEM 3441, etc.)
