Steel Construction Estimator

About This Role

As a Steel Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing accurate bids for commercial steel construction projects, including structural and miscellaneous steel, and contributing to sales efforts by building client relationships. This role offers growth potential into project management for those with strong skills and a desire to manage projects from beginning to end.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate steel estimates for commercial construction projects, including schools, office buildings, and warehouses
• Analyze project drawings, specifications, and other documents to determine scope and materials
• Collaborate with clients, architects, and general contractors to understand project needs and provide competitive bids
• Maintain relationships and follow up on project opportunities
• Review project requirements and costs, and ensure all estimates are within budget
• Advise on material choices and alternative solutions to meet both design and budgetary constraints
• Work closely with the project management and fabrication teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and efficient project execution
• Opportunity to take on more responsibility, including managing projects from start to finish ("cradle-to-grave"), and leading teams through the design, fabrication, and installation phases

Requirements

• 3+ years experience in steel estimating for commercial projects
• Strong understanding of steel construction processes, structural steel design, and AISC industry standards
• Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to develop and maintain client relationships

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in steel estimating, with a focus on structural and miscellaneous steel for commercial projects

• Familiarity with Procore
• Familiarity with Bluebeam
• Familiarity with Tekla
