About This Role

Operate and maintain steam distribution, HVAC, and building mechanical systems for the University of Pennsylvania, ensuring safe and efficient functioning of campus facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the physical demands of the position including extensive walking, standing, bending, climbing stairs/ladders, and lifting at least 50 lbs.
  • Perform multi-skilled trade functions as assigned or as operational needs dictate.
  • Utilize knowledge of principles and methods used in maintenance and operation of steam distribution, HVAC, and building mechanical systems.
  • Use materials, tools, and equipment for installation, maintenance, and repair of steam, HVAC, and building equipment.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair all components associated with steam, HVAC, and building mechanical systems.
  • Understand and utilize safe work practices and PPE as defined by OSHA and other governing entities.
  • Energize, operate, and maintain steam distribution systems with pressures ranging from 0-250 psi.
  • Interpret and work from schematics, drawings, sketches, and O&M manuals.
  • Repair and troubleshoot both pneumatic and DDC controls.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completed an approved accredited HVAC or Steamfitting apprenticeship (4-year program) with 3 years of journey-person level experience post-graduation OR HVAC or Steamfitter trade-specific vocational school (2-year program) with 5 years of journey-person level experience post-graduation OR HVAC or Steamfitter trade-specific military school(s) or corporate training program with 5 years of journey-person level experience post-completion.
  • 5-7 years of experience with HVAC and/or Steam systems.
  • Valid driver's license, free of any suspension or revocation.
  • Ability to accept rotating shift work if required.
  • Ability, experience, and willingness to perform multi-skilled trade functions.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods in maintenance and operation of steam distribution, HVAC, and building mechanical systems.
  • Experience using materials, tools, and equipment for installation, maintenance, and repair of steam, HVAC, and building equipment.
  • Experience installing, troubleshooting, and repairing all components associated with steam, HVAC, and building mechanical systems.
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of safe work practices and PPE as defined by OSHA and other governing entities.
  • Experience energizing, operating, and maintaining steam distribution systems with pressures ranging from 0-250 psi.
  • Experience interpreting and working from schematics, drawings, sketches and O&M manuals.
  • Experience repairing and troubleshooting both pneumatic and DDC controls.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5-7 years of experience with HVAC and/or Steam systems, plus 3-5 years of journey-person level experience post-program graduation.
