About This Role

Provide comprehensive, patient-family centered nursing care for patients, primarily in Medical-Surgical Oncology, utilizing the nursing process to address health and illness problems. Guide and monitor the work of paraprofessional and other team members.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive patient-family centered care addressing potential and actual health and illness problems for patients and families.
  • Exercise initiative and independent professional judgment under the supervision of the Nurse Manager/Director.
  • Use the nursing process to provide comprehensive patient centered nursing care for assigned patients.
  • Guide and monitor work of paraprofessional and other team members.
  • Integrate the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and the Patients' Bill of Rights, Professional Scope and Standards of Practice and pertinent Specialty Standards into nursing practice.
  • Explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences.
  • Prioritize patient care, assignments and work within standardized policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Build collaborative relationships with peers and other healthcare providers.

Requirements

  • Graduation from accredited School of Nursing
  • RN-Registered Nurse of California
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider
  • ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Provider (Within 6 months of hire)
  • 2+ years of acute care clinical experience preferably in Medical-Surgical Oncology unit
  • Demonstrated general knowledge and competence with regard to nursing theories, concepts and practices; medical terminology; anatomy; and physiology
  • Working knowledge of the healthcare industry, safety precaution policies, best practices regarding patient care and privacy, and changes in local/state/federal regulations
  • Written and verbal communications skills
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Basic knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Outlook)
  • Ability to work independently as well as be part of the team
  • Ability to communicate and engage team members, patients and families in a variety of stressful situations
  • Ability to use existing procedures and critical thinking to identify and solve routine or complex problems
  • Ability to ensure the privacy of each patient’s protected health information (PHI)
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with peers and other healthcare providers

Qualifications

  • Graduation from accredited School of Nursing, Bachelors preferred
  • 2+ years of acute care clinical experience preferably in Medical-Surgical Oncology unit.
