About This Role

Assess, diagnose, plan, and implement medical care for patients in collaboration with a physician, functioning within the full scope of licensure for an Orthopedic Upper Extremity Physician Assistant.

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient assessments including obtaining medical history, reviewing records, performing physical exams, and documenting findings
  • Provide healthcare services to patients under physician direction
  • Administer or order diagnostic tests and interpret results
  • Develop and implement patient management plans, record progress notes, and ensure continuity of care
  • Instruct and counsel patients on therapeutic regimens, growth and development, family planning, and health maintenance
  • Perform therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, and infection management
  • Communicate orally and in writing with patients, physicians, and staff
  • Provide health education and counseling to patients
  • Accurately document patient encounter data
  • Serve as coordinator for patients to access community and other resources
  • Identify, report, and contribute to performance improvement activities
  • Perform first/second assistant responsibilities in accordance with state scope of practice requirements
  • Provide care for different types of patients with varying complexity

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • PA-Physician Assistant license
  • CSRC-Controlled Substance Registered Certification (DEA)
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider
  • NCCPA-National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (required at hire or within 12 months if hired before 07/10/2025)
  • 2 years of recent relevant experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of patient care guidelines/policy
  • Medical knowledge and skills within scope of practice
  • Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology
  • Working knowledge of electronic health records such as EPIC
  • Critical thinking skills for age-appropriate assessments
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written, listening)

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • 2 years of recent relevant experience

Nice to Have

  • ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support (for specific departments)
