This role is a strategic advisor to partners and leadership, developing innovative fee arrangements and driving awareness of pricing impacts. It focuses on pricing strategy for complex matters, alternative fee arrangements (AFAs), and high-volume RFPs, balancing client value with firm economics.
Responsibilities
- Own pricing strategy and financial modeling for complex matters, AFAs, and high-value RFPs, renewals, and strategic client programs
- Develop recommended pricing positions, framing options, risks, and economic trade-offs
- Design, evaluate, and recommend AFAs, focusing on protecting realization and margin
- Partner with Legal Project Management to implement budgets, monitoring tools, and guardrails
- Provide scenario modeling and risk analysis to support pricing decisions and negotiations
- Act as a trusted advisor to partners, balancing collaboration with clear, practical guardrails
- Work with attorneys to align scope, staffing, efficiency assumptions, and pricing with client objectives
- Collaborate with the proposal team to support a coordinated approach to RFPs and pitches
- Leverage historical matter data to identify comparable engagements and develop defensible pricing recommendations
- Compile and analyze revenue, realization, margin, and profitability data to support pricing decisions
Requirements
- 4+ years of pricing, finance, or budgeting experience
- 3+ years experience in a law firm or professional services environment
- Hands-on experience with AFAs, portfolio pricing, and financial modeling
- Strong experience analyzing margin, realization, and profitability
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills
- Experience with relational data systems
- Experience with law firm financial systems (e.g., Aderant, Iridium, or similar)
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial concepts clearly
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams and geographies
- Demonstrated creative problem-solving capabilities
Qualifications
- 4+ years of pricing, finance, or budgeting experience, with at least 3 years in a law firm or professional services environment.
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting labor & employment and/or litigation practices
- Exposure to pricing governance or intake models
- Comfort operating in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment
- Familiarity with SQL and/or Power BI
- Experience with e-billing platforms and client portals
