Sr. Electrical Designer

About This Role

This role is for a Smartplant 3D Designer to prepare electrical 3D designs, as well as 2D electrical AutoCAD and SmartSketch designs to support new facility infrastructure design for DOD and USAF projects. The successful candidate will work on the Sentinel Program, modernizing the ground-based leg of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad.

Responsibilities

• Support design development of Electrical systems and equipment for the Sentinel program project
• Prepare models, drawings, and evaluations in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements
• Work with Electrical engineers, junior designers, and other technical disciplines in a team environment
• Support, coach, and train less experienced designers
• Model electrical rooms, equipment, cable tray, conduit, conduit duct bank, lighting, receptacles in a Smartplant 3D model environment
• Create bill of materials and drawing installation details for modeled items, including grounding, lightning protection, and support details using SmartSketch and AutoCAD
• Perform calculations utilizing AGI 32 for lighting layouts and ETAP for ground grid layouts
• Assist with coordination of 3D model activities, including input and interference reconciliation with other physical related disciplines
• Produce drawings of interior and exterior layouts/plans/elevation views of the raceway design, equipment location and layout, lighting layouts, lightning protection layouts, and grounding plans
• Develop material specifications utilizing the software SpecsIntact
• Coordinate with Systems engineering department to establish and verify design/project requirements
• Ensure electrical systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards

Requirements

• AA/AS or Certificate in Engineering/CAD with 10-12 years of experience OR 12-14 years of relevant work experience
• United States citizen
• Knowledge and application of NEC code and NEMA/ANSI/IEEE Standards
• Experience with an electronic Cable Management System, such as SETROUTE program
• Hands-on and advanced experience using Smartplant 3D, SmartSketch, and AutoCAD
• Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
• Ability to utilize engineering and office automation tools effectively
• Broad knowledge of the application of Electrical engineering design principles
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, schematics and layouts
• Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings and specifications
• Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally
• Ability to resolve design issues independently and collaboratively with other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client

Qualifications

• AA/AS or Certificate in Engineering/CAD
• 10-12 years of experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience in electrical design, including drawings for Electrical systems and equipment on nuclear or industrial process facilities, data centers, central utility plants, or complex building Electrical systems.

Nice to Have

• Modeling of piping, HVAC, and Mechanical equipment in a Smartplant 3D model environment
• Previous DoD/DoE, USACE, NAVFAC, USAF, or NASA project experience
• Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ISO-9000
• Active security clearance or the ability to obtain a security clearance
