Senior Electrical Designer

About This Role

Design and layout electrical systems for construction projects, resolve technical problems, and ensure compliance with policies and codes. This role involves independent decision-making and may include supervising junior designers.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering calculations and layout and design electrical systems in accordance with established policies, standards, procedures, and codes
• Resolve problems and conflicts related to assigned projects using practical knowledge and experience
• Exercise independent decision-making for engineering tasks on projects
• Supervise subordinate personnel and assist other engineers or designers
• Meet with Project Engineer and Project Manager to discuss design scope, schedule, budget, phasing, site issues, and design review issues
• Prepare design budgets and schedules with Project Manager and Project Engineer
• Estimate discipline man-hours for project design requirements
• Provide leadership, assign design job functions, and supervise designated designers to ensure project completion on time and within budget
• Implement selected system types and provide complete construction documents meeting client and project team requirements
• Review preliminary and final designs with other disciplines for function, clearances, coordination, and final design selection, and perform a final review of engineering drawings
• Perform quality control (QC) on projects in coordination with all disciplines and project engineers
• Mentor and motivate Engineering Designers I, II, and III

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 8 years of experience OR an associate degree with minimum 10 years' experience in the design of Electrical systems under the supervision of a Professional Engineer
• Excellent knowledge of discipline specific and other building codes
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Good leadership skills

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or an associate degree with 10+ years of experience in Electrical systems design under a Professional Engineer.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in Electrical Engineering, or 10+ years of experience in Electrical systems design with an associate degree, or 10+ years of practical experience in Electrical fields.

Nice to Have

• EIT preferable
• 10+ years of practical experience in Electrical fields
