This role involves high-quality patient registration and scheduling for new appointments, ensuring timely and efficient service for patients and referring providers. It requires handling complex patient cases and maintaining strict compliance with department procedures.
Responsibilities
- Receive incoming communication and online requests from patients and referring providers for care
- Perform patient registration and scheduling processes, including complex cases
- Ensure timely, efficient, and high-quality service to patients, referring providers, and other customers
- Coordinate registration and scheduling for new patient appointments
- Document all patient demographic, medical, financial, and referral information into the computer
- Answer telephones, triage calls, and take accurate, detailed messages
- Provide basic information and instructions to patients regarding the practice and Hospitals
- Obtain all patient information required by providers prior to an appointment and ensure medical records are available
- Transcribe call, referral, and scheduling information completely and accurately into multiple systems
- Provide excellent customer service and service recovery to internal and external customers
- Ensure all BWH expectations are met by scheduling referral appointments and radiology orders
- Maintain confidentiality and privacy consistent with HIPAA guidelines
Requirements
- 2-3 years related work experience in a medical office or health care setting
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Outlook and Excel
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong communication, interpersonal and team skills
- Ability to exercise judgment in dealing with sensitive, confidential information
- Detail-oriented with ability to enter information accurately
- Ability to handle high volume calls and work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to translate patient/referring office requests into appropriate actions
- In-depth knowledge of referral triage processes
- Knowledge of insurance stipulations affecting appointment scheduling
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required
- 2-3 years of related work experience in a medical office or health care setting, with 2-3 years preferred experience working with Epic
