This role performs therapeutic procedures, instructs patients on exercise, and assists physicians with patient evaluation, documentation, treatment, education, and care coordination in a clinic setting. It also involves assisting with surgery coordination and performing research and quality improvement projects.
Responsibilities
- Perform therapeutic procedures such as wound care, crutch and gait training, casting, splinting, or bracing
- Instruct patients on exercise programs
- Assist physician with evaluation, documentation, treatment, education, and care coordination for patients in clinic setting
- Assist with surgery coordination, positioning, draping, and intraoperative patient care for surgeons
- Perform research and quality improvement projects
- Schedule appointments for diagnostic examinations and physical therapy based on physician’s orders
- Educate patients regarding treatment plans, pathophysiology, anatomy, and clinical decision making
- Gather patient’s medical background and history of present illness, perform problem focused clinical examination, document findings and treatment plans, and place orders in electronic medical record system
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Allied Health
- 3 years related experience in healthcare office in clinical or other related medical areas including evaluating and assessing patient injury
- Certified Orthopedic Technologist (OTC)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
- Board of Certified Athletic Trainers Certification (BOCATC)
- Excellent written, verbal and follow up skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to work well with a team
- Ability to interact with potential patients, clinic staff, physicians, and departments in a professional manner
- Ability to multi-task with high degree of attention to detail and bring tasks to completion
- Comfortable communicating with patients
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Allied Health
- 3 years related experience in healthcare office in clinical or other related medical areas including evaluating and assessing patient injury
Nice to Have
- Master’s Degree in Allied Health or Education
- Completion of SMA residency or equivalent program
