The staff Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) will treat individuals of all ages with cognitive, communication, and swallowing disorders. This role involves screening, assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for both outpatients and inpatients, ensuring quality patient care.
Responsibilities
- Provide speech-language pathology services in outpatient, acute/inpatient, and swing bed settings
- Evaluate all types and ages of patients, including pediatric and geriatric
- Schedule outpatients and inpatients with the therapy office manager
- Evaluate inpatient SLP orders generally within 48 hours, and swing bed/home patients within 72 hours
- Review SLP referrals, medical records, and patient goals to determine appropriate treatment plans
- Confer with physicians and other practitioners to obtain additional patient information and integrate treatment
- Provide written evaluation and treatment plan based on patient data
- Provide a written plan of care (POC) to be signed by the provider
- Update POC as needed and evaluate treatment effects to adjust for maximum benefit
- Address cognitive aspects of communication, speech, language, swallowing, and sensory awareness
- Administer therapeutic activities and strategies to improve and maintain function
- Instruct, motivate, and assist patients to perform various activities
- Supervise and communicate with therapy aides regarding patient activities
- Record treatment, response, and progress in the patient's EMR and enter billing for services provided
- Instruct patient and family in treatment procedures for home and provide patient/family education
- Occasionally provide community-focused educational seminars, discussions, or classes
- Attend meetings as requested by Administration or hospital staff
Requirements
- Current Idaho Speech-Language Pathologist license
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or equivalent CPR certification
