Process and handle laboratory specimens to ensure accurate and timely receipt, order entry, transport, and distribution. Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers within a large health care complex.
Responsibilities
- Transport and receive barcoded specimens from inpatient units and distribute to work benches
- Centrifuge, aliquot, and store specimens for processing
- Prepare send-out specimens for reference laboratories and document problems
- Receive and process urine specimens including order entry, weighing, pouring, and aliquoting
- Receive and distribute items from the pneumatic tube system
- Enter laboratory test orders into the computer system from patient requisitions
- Scan all required requisitions and attachments for patient orders
- Receive, look up, and print Mi-Chart test labels and label specimens
- Manage and process Add-test requests for Outpatient and Inpatients
- Reconcile Mi-Chart unreleased and problem orders
- Provide total customer focus to meet the needs of all customers
- Comply with safety instructions and observe safe work practices
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to walk 3-5 miles, climb and descend 6 flights of stairs, lift up to 10 lbs.
- Ability to bend at approximately a 45 degree angle multiple times within an eight-hour shift
- Ability to perform repetitive motion
