Software Engineer III (Mainframe/Cobol)

About This Role

As a Software Engineer III, you will join an Agile Team within a DevOps unit, focusing on optimizing financial systems and adding business value. You will develop and support solutions that power Walmart Stores and Sam's Club sales.

Responsibilities

• Review and understand business and technical needs to deeply understand solutions
• Develop applications based on design specifications, including coding, testing, debugging, documenting, and reviewing
• Assess and test the overall effectiveness and performance of an application
• Identify causes of defects and conduct analysis to avoid recurrence of issues
• Conduct monitoring, maintenance, and related activities including documentation, deployment, and security
• Support in ensuring adherence to program metrics and provide information to correct deficiencies or risks

Requirements

• Proficiency in Java with experience in Functional Programming, Object-Oriented Design, and Event-Driven Architectures
• Familiarity with migration efforts from Mainframe to Next Gen Tech Stack
• Knowledge of Cobol and C++
• Familiarity with Cloud-Based Deployment strategies
• Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area
• 2-4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area

Nice to Have

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area
• Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards and assistive technologies
