Software Engineer

About This Role

The Software Engineer will join a fast-growing product team at Flocknote, focusing primarily on backend development to craft amazing user experiences with an ownership mindset. This role involves contributing across the entire product lifecycle, from data models to launches, within a startup engineering team passionate about supporting the Church.

Responsibilities

• Design and build solid backend solutions to power pixel-perfect user experiences
• Own the success of the product from idea to launch and support
• Collaborate with teammates to solve problems creatively while balancing tradeoffs and timelines
• Iterate on Flocknote's robust backend with a focus on quality, scalability, and security
• Continuously improve and fill gaps in knowledge and processes via iteration
• Manage day-to-day schedule and communicate effectively in a loosely-defined environment

Requirements

• Proficiency with a LAMP stack, node servers, or other modern web app development stacks
• Experience with OOP concepts, design patterns, and a modern web-based language and environment
• Experience crafting efficient SQL queries and interacting with services via command line
• Strong knowledge of security best practices for websites, including CSRF, XSS, encryption, SQL injection

Nice to Have

• Experience with PHP 8+ and modern PHP development
• Cross-client email design and HTML layout compatibility for various email clients
• Experience with queues and asynchronous processing paradigms
• Test-driven development, integration, and unit tests
• Knowledge of PCI & other data security compliance
• Debugging performance or stability issues using log files, infrastructure metrics, server and MySQL process logs, and MySQL EXPLAIN plans
• Experience with AWS and Docker
• Experience with Elasticsearch and other NoSQL datastores
