This fellowship offers Simmons University nursing students the opportunity to gain clinical experience as a Patient Care Assistant or Unit Coordinator at Mass General Brigham, focusing on patient care, communication, and administrative support within a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with daily living needs, monitoring & reading vital signs, drawing blood, and obtaining EKGs (PCA role)
- Respond to patient requests, safeguard patient confidentiality, monitor patient safety, and communicate respectfully (PCA role)
- Act as the central contact person for the nursing unit (Unit Coordinator role)
- Perform transcription, clerical, and reception duties (Unit Coordinator role)
- Become an expert user in Epic (Unit Coordinator role)
- Coordinate non-nursing/non-clinical activities essential to the effective functioning of the nursing unit (Unit Coordinator role)
- Provide weekly shift coverage for this fellowship
Requirements
- Currently enrolled Simmons University Nursing Student
- Member of the Dotson Bridge & Mentoring program or ALANA
- HS Diploma
- Knowledge of English language sufficient to read, speak, and write accurately
- Knowledge of simple arithmetic
- Ability to lift and transport patients using appropriate physical technique
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled Simmons University Nursing Student
- CNA related experience or completed one clinical rotation in a nursing program
