About This Role

This role provides visionary and strategic leadership for a large academic research lab specializing in bipolar disorder studies. The Senior Research Manager will oversee program development, operational management, talent development, and fiscal oversight to ensure programmatic success.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and professional expertise across all lab operations, leveraging team skills to accomplish complex objectives
  • Develop, recommend, and implement operational and strategic initiatives in line with the program’s research, clinical, and administrative goals
  • Consult with top senior leadership to set long-range objectives and contribute to broad strategy and vision
  • Manage a team of subordinate managers, clinicians, research coordinators, professional staff and student learners
  • Oversee human resource management: recruitment, hiring, onboarding, promotion, salary adjustments, performance appraisals, coaching, disciplinary actions, and professional development
  • Plan, direct, and manage program workflows and resource allocation for daily research and clinical operations
  • Oversee regulatory compliance, including institutional review board (IRB) protocols and Government/FDA standards
  • Develop, administer, and monitor program budgets
  • Represent the lab in communications with donors, development offices, university administration, and external partners
  • Ensure compliance with university policies, FLSA regulations, and applicable laws

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, Social Work, or related discipline
  • Significant professional experience in mental health research management
  • Strong prior management, supervisory, or team leadership experience, ideally within a large and growing academic, clinical, or research environment
  • Thorough understanding of university operations, healthcare policies, and regulatory compliance
  • Proven impact on operational effectiveness, goal attainment, and service improvement

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, Social Work, or related discipline
  • Significant professional experience in mental health research management; strong prior management, supervisory, or team leadership experience, ideally within a large and growing academic, clinical, or research environment

Nice to Have

  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, Social Work, or related discipline
  • Knowledge of bipolar disorder
