This Financial Senior Manager will advance MICHR's mission by driving innovative financial operations, ensuring rigorous fiscal stewardship, and supporting the institute's strategic vision. This role involves overseeing a high-performing finance team and providing critical expertise in financial planning and control. The manager will leverage advanced analytical techniques and data-driven decision-making to guide budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement detailed and comprehensive budgets aligned with strategic and operational plans, ensuring compliance with financial guidelines and federal regulations
- Provide expert technical analysis and advice as it relates to assessing present and future financial performance and supporting long-term fiscal sustainability
- Organize and synthesize data from multiple sources to perform complex financial modeling, trend analysis, and future planning; prepare and present clear reports and actionable recommendations to MICHR leadership
- Direct the development and implementation of new techniques for financial information analysis, forecasting, and operational policy
- Lead accurate stakeholder communication of budgetary matters and secure required approvals across internal and external teams
- Coordinate financial operations and planning with all levels of MICHR management and leadership, promoting accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement of financial practices
- Lead the financial portions of MICHR's annual NIH Research Performance Progress Reports and month-end close
- Create budgets for new grant proposals and supplemental funding requests, ensuring alignment with Funding Opportunity Announcement guidelines
- Manage a team of finance specialists, with responsibility for interviewing, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating employees
- Direct team workflows, set schedules, and maintain accountability for the team's permanent, ongoing function within the institute
Requirements
- 5 to 7 years of experience in financial management, including budgeting, analysis, and reporting
- Experience with NIH or federal grant financial management and compliance
- Proven experience managing and supervising employees in a continuing function
- Experience translating complex financial data into actionable insights
- Advanced knowledge of financial systems and advanced analytical tools
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills across all organizational levels
- Experience impacting budgeting, controlling costs, planning, scheduling, and driving procedural changes
- Demonstrated leadership and staff development skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- 5 to 7 years of experience in financial management, including budgeting, analysis, and reporting
Nice to Have
- Master's degree or CPA
- Experience with advanced financial analysis research and modeling
