Senior Production Editor

About This Role

This role involves managing the entire production process for assigned high-profile titles from manuscript to bound book, including various versions. It also includes supervising a direct report, managing a pool of freelance vendors, and overseeing sales material production.

Responsibilities

• Traffic high-profile titles through the production process from manuscript to bound book and all applicable versions (Library editions, ebook, channel, exclusive editions)
• Review manuscript copyedits, interior and exterior proofreads, and vendor proof reviews
• Work with Editorial, Design, and manufacturing teams
• Shepherd multiple projects while maintaining quality control and meeting strict deadlines
• Manage 1 direct report (Production Editor), including title load, performance reviews, and biweekly check-ins
• Manage the pool of freelance vendors, issue new contracts, file paperwork, and provide feedback
• Regularly review and implement changes to freelance vendor rates of pay
• Grade tests for prospective freelance vendors
• Oversee the production of sales materials and report title status in biweekly meetings
• Collaborate with other Production Group managers on team initiatives

Requirements

• Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining high quality and juggling multiple projects
• Excellent copyediting and proofreading skills
• Knowledge of industry standards including Chicago Manual of Style
• Excellent communication skills
