This role involves planning and conducting complex civil or criminal financial investigations, analyzing evidence, and preparing reports to support legal cases for a federal agency.
Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct complex civil or criminal investigations
- Perform quantitative, qualitative, and other analysis of relevant facts
- Prepare investigation results to support the mission
- Develop and analyze evidence from other investigators and law enforcement officers
- Gather and analyze facts including statements, timelines, and technical data for prosecutorial objectives
- Establish and verify relationships among facts and evidence to confirm authenticity and corroborate statements
- Provide analysis relevant to violations of federal law (e.g., money laundering, various types of fraud)
- Identify sources of information and multiple variables
- Conduct asset investigations, verify employment, and perform financial analysis
- Develop an understanding of applicable federal, state, or local law for sound investigative decisions
- Devise methods for obtaining, preserving, and presenting evidence effectively
- Work with paralegals, legal assistants, and supervisory attorneys to determine statutory law and identify violations
- Perform ancillary services in direct support of assigned cases and matters
- Use electronic databases to identify assets, documents, and other physical evidence
- Prepare interim and final reports on investigation progress
- Assist in compiling and analyzing documents and physical evidence, and creating audio-visual materials for trial
- Prepare affidavits and testify in court as required
- Advise on methods for planning, scheduling, and conducting investigations and identify required resources
- Examine books, ledgers, records, statements, invoices, correspondence, and computer data pertaining to investigations
Requirements
- Minimum of four years experience in planning and conducting civil or criminal complex investigations concerning misuse of public, private, or insurance funds
- Working knowledge of current investigative techniques including the use of commercial databases and other sources of information
- U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain adjudication for the requisite background investigation
Qualifications
- Minimum of four years experience in planning and conducting civil or criminal complex investigations concerning misuse of public, private, or insurance funds
Nice to Have
- Experience in law enforcement
- Experience in analyzing, organizing, and presenting a large volume of data using common software programs
- Experience in reviewing and understanding financial records
- Experience in interviewing potential witnesses
- Previous experience with the United States Army, Department of Homeland Security, or other large federal agency
