Lead and supervise professional and technical electrical engineering activities related to the planning, design, and construction of transmission, distribution, and substation facilities for the Modesto Irrigation District. This role involves complex analysis, strategic planning, and ensuring compliance with NERC/WECC criteria.
Responsibilities
- Plan, prioritize, and review the work of staff performing professional electrical engineering tasks
- Develop schedules and methods to ensure timely and efficient completion of assignments
- Provide technical, functional, and/or direct supervision over assigned staff and coordinate training
- Perform detailed and complex analysis of the District's transmission, subtransmission, distribution networks, and generation facilities
- Conduct power flow studies and provide recommendations for system operation
- Work with outside utilities to build and supply an updated transmission system model with forecasted peak loads
- Perform system import limit studies and develop special protection systems in compliance with NERC/WECC criteria
- Develop and update the District's Transmission and Distribution 5-Year Plan, identifying new capital projects as needed
- Conduct studies on transmission, substation, generation, and distribution systems; design and specify equipment and settings
- Review NERC standards, prepare responses to Compliance Questionnaires and Reliability Standard Audit Worksheets
- Plan, design, and oversee the construction and upgrades of District generation facilities
- Perform interconnection studies with outside utilities and evaluate project effects on the District's system
- Prepare complex engineering studies, reports, technical specifications, and oversee design/construction standards
- Manage the most difficult electrical engineering projects related to generation, transmission, distribution, and substation facilities
- Represent the District in meetings with regulatory agencies, Joint Power Agencies, and the public
Requirements
- 3+ years of journey-level electrical engineering experience
- Experience supervising or leading professional/technical staff
- Knowledge of principles and practices of electrical engineering related to electric system operation
- Knowledge of pertinent local, State, Federal rules, regulations and laws
- Proficiency in advanced project management methodologies
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- Three years of responsible journey-level experience similar to an Associate Electrical Engineer, including direct or indirect supervision of professional/technical staff.
