Senior Director of Software Engineering - Head of Cloud/Lake Platforms Engineering

About This Role

Lead the Cloud Lake, Storage, and Compute Platform Services team within the Data Platforms organization, driving multiple technology and process implementations to achieve firmwide technology objectives and support data strategy.

Responsibilities

• Lead multiple technology and process implementations across departments to achieve firmwide technology objectives
• Directly manage multiple areas with strategic transactional focus
• Provide leadership and high-level direction to teams while overseeing employee populations across multiple platforms, divisions, and lines of business
• Act as the primary interface with senior leaders, stakeholders, and executives, driving consensus across competing objectives
• Manage multiple stakeholders, complex projects, and large cross-product collaborations
• Influence peer leaders and senior stakeholders across the business, product, and technology teams
• Champion the firm’s culture of diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect
• Lead the execution of the firm-wide migration to strategic platforms and data
• Accountable for the delivery and growth of enterprise-grade data platforms with a focus on scalability, availability, capabilities, and performance
• Collaborate with peer teams such as Data Management, Data Publishing, and Data Governance to deliver solutions for key personas
• Elevate the engineering standards within the organization through best practices, coaching, and talent development

Requirements

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts
• 10+ years applied experience in software engineering
• 5+ years of experience leading technologists to manage, anticipate and solve complex technical items
• Experience developing or leading large or cross-functional teams of technologists
• Demonstrated prior experience influencing across highly matrixed, complex organizations and delivering value at scale
• Experience leading complex projects supporting system design, testing, and operational stability
• Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent
• Extensive practical cloud native experience
• Expertise in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field
• Expertise in systems and software design for large-scale distributed data solutions
• Experience with large scale data platforms

Qualifications

• 10+ years applied experience in software engineering concepts and 5+ years experience leading technologists

Nice to Have

• Experience working at code level
• Familiarity with data processing and development frameworks like Spark, Informatica, and DBT
• Knowledge of open table formats such as Iceberg and Delta, and their catalog solutions (e.g., Polaris, Unity)
• Proficiency in software development technologies (Java/JS/Python/REST)
• Proficiency in methodologies (Agile/Scrum)
• Experience in AI/ML and feature engineering
