This role involves performing comprehensive chairside assisting across all dental care phases, ensuring efficient clinical operations, and supporting patient care and education within the Dental College.
Responsibilities
- Assist dental students, residents, and faculty in emergency, restorative, prosthodontic, periodontic, endodontic, and oral surgery procedures.
- Participate in four-handed dentistry, providing chairside support and accurately mixing dental materials.
- Manage and replenish dental supplies, maintaining operatories in a clean, organized, and functional state.
- Prepare, package, and maintain dental instruments and equipment according to infection control protocols.
- Perform dental laboratory tasks, including pouring and trimming models and fabricating custom appliances.
- Operate dental radiographic equipment, explain procedures to patients, and process images into electronic records.
- Prepare operatories for patient treatment, including laying out instruments, materials, and equipment.
- Enter clinical findings into electronic health records and assist in scheduling follow-up appointments.
- Provide dental assisting services at off-campus sites and participate in board examinations and health fairs.
- Adhere to infection control guidelines, safety protocols, and institutional emergency response procedures.
Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent with two years of related experience OR Certified Dental Assistant and/or Associate's degree with one year of experience OR one year of experience as a Dental Assistant at the Dental College of Georgia OR Bachelor's degree with dental knowledge.
- Minimum of two years of experience as a Dental Assistant in a general dentistry or multi-specialty practice.
- Hands-on experience in mixing dental materials, taking intraoral and panoramic x-rays, and chairside dental assisting in multiple disciplines (Operative, Crown and Bridge, Removable Prosthodontics, Periodontics, Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Pediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics, Esthetic Dentistry).
Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent, or Certified Dental Assistant, or Associate's degree, or Bachelor's degree.
- 2 years of related experience with High School Diploma/GED, or 1 year with Certified Dental Assistant/Associate's degree, or 1 year as DA at Dental College of Georgia, or dental knowledge with Bachelor's degree.
Nice to Have
- Bachelor's degree with a focus in dental or health-related studies.
- Graduation from a Certified Dental Assisting program.
- Proficiency in spoken Spanish in a clinical setting.
