This Senior Dental Assistant performs comprehensive chairside assisting across all phases of dental care, supporting clinical operations and patient intake, and executing dental laboratory duties.
Responsibilities
- Assist dental students, residents, and/or faculty in patient treatment across various dental specialties
- Participate in four-handed dentistry, providing chairside support with instrumentation and dental materials
- Manage and replenish dental and specialty supplies, maintaining assigned operatories in a clean and functional state
- Perform dental laboratory tasks, including pouring prosthodontic models, trimming models, and fabricating custom appliances
- Operate dental radiographic equipment to obtain intraoral and extraoral images, ensuring proper patient protection and documentation
- Prepare operatories for patient treatment, including instrument setup, material preparation, and patient seating/draping
- Enter clinical findings into electronic health records and assist in scheduling follow-up appointments
- Provide dental assisting services at off-campus educational programs or patient care sites
- Participate in board examinations and community outreach efforts like Health Fairs
- Follow all published guidelines regarding PPE and clinical infection control protocols, including proper disposal of sharps and hazardous waste
Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent with two years of related experience OR Certified Dental Assistant and/or Associate's degree with one year of experience in dentistry OR One year of experience as a Dental Assistant at the Dental College of Georgia OR Bachelor's degree with dental knowledge
Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent from a recognized state or federal accrediting organization
- Two years of related experience with a high school diploma, or one year with an Associate's degree, or one year as Dental Assistant at the Dental College of Georgia, or Bachelor's degree with dental knowledge.
Nice to Have
- Graduation from a Certified Dental Assisting program
- CPR certified
- Intraoral Radiographic Certification
- Two years of experience in general dentistry assisting (mixing materials, taking x-rays, chairside assisting in multiple disciplines)
- Training with radiological safety
- Proficient in understanding and speaking Spanish in a clinical setting
- Certified Dental Surgical Anesthesia Assistant or ability to obtain within first year
