About This Role

The Senior Accountant will lead financial record-keeping, ensure timely reporting for funding streams, and manage month-end close processes for The Industrial Commons Finance Department, supporting a mission-driven team building an inclusive economy.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process, including preparing journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Complete monthly grant and field/program budget trackers accurately and timely.
  • Track accumulated depreciation and amortization schedules.
  • Compile and organize backup for internal and external audits and funder monitoring.
  • Prepare account reconciliation on balance sheet accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies as needed.
  • Process intercompany transactions monthly, including loans and service agreements.
  • Partner with Enterprises, ensuring finance best practices are implemented organization-wide.
  • Support financial compliance with federal contract requirements across multiple programs.
  • Collaborate with Directors and other finance team members to ensure accurate cost allocation and financial reporting.
  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and enforcing financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and 2 CFR Part 200.
  • Prepare financial reports for Board meetings and assist in responding to financial queries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 3+ years of general accounting experience
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and ERP systems
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace
  • Strong knowledge of compliance regulations, including federal regulations (2 CFR Part 200) and Single Audit requirements
  • Understanding of GAAP

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 3+ years of general accounting experience, ideally in government contracting or nonprofits

Nice to Have

  • Advanced degree or CPA/CPA Candidate
  • Experience in government contracting or nonprofits
  • Experience with financial management of capital investment projects
