This role is responsible for processing all release of medical information requests in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner for Sharecare, a digital healthcare company. The specialist ensures patient privacy and compliance with HIPAA and company regulations.
Responsibilities
- Complete release of information requests including retrieving and returning patient medical charts
- Scan medical records accurately and transmit daily according to requests, procedures, and standards
- Date stamp all requests and highlight pertinent data for processing
- Validate requests and authorizations for release of medical information according to established procedures
- Perform quality checks on all work to assure accuracy of the release, confidentiality, and proper invoicing
- Maintain equipment in excellent operating condition
- Provide excellent customer service by being attentive, respectful, and proactive in identifying client concerns
- Receive incoming requests including opening mail, telephone inquiries, and retrieving facsimile inquiries
- Maintain a neat, clean, and professional personal appearance and observe the established dress code
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area, ensuring records and files are properly stored
- Maintain working knowledge of existing state laws and fee structure
- Work within scope of position and direction; willingly accept assignments and take on additional facilities or help during backlogs
- Carry out responsibilities in accordance with client/site policies and procedures, including HIPAA and state/federal regulations
- Maintain confidentiality, security, and standards of ethics with all information
- Work with privileged information in a conscientious manner while releasing medical records efficiently, effectively, and accurately
Requirements
- High School Diploma (GED)
- Strong computer software experience with general working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to work remotely and provide support in client locations if needed
- Geographical proximity to the assigned client site required for support
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to type 50 wpm
- Ability to use fax, copier, and scanning machines
- Willingness to learn new equipment and processes quickly
- Self-motivated team player
- Proven customer satisfaction skills
- Ability to multi-task
Qualifications
- High School Diploma (GED)
- Minimum of 2 years prior experience in a medical records department or similar setting preferred
Nice to Have
- 2+ years prior experience in a medical records department or like setting
