Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate respiratory therapy care and life support for patients across all medical center areas, including neonatal intensive care. This role involves providing essential services such as oxygen therapy, medical gas therapy, and pharmaceutical treatments under physician supervision.
Responsibilities
- Uphold Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibility, and applicable laws
- Apply philosophy and demonstrate knowledge of the Patient Bill of Rights
- Treat members, co-workers, and employees with respect and dignity, maintaining privacy and confidentiality
- Demonstrate knowledge, application, competency, and assessment skills for neonatal, pediatric, and adult patient categories
- Participate in patient care rounds as an active member of the critical care team
- Perform patient assessment and provide appropriate therapy, knowing admitting diagnosis and pulmonary pathophysiology
- Evaluate patient response to respiratory care and document information as outlined in department policies
- Determine appropriateness and provide recommendations for respiratory care services considering age, cognitive abilities, and development status
- Perform respiratory diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including blood gas analysis and quality controls
- Perform Basic Life Support, Pediatric, and Neonatal resuscitation and respond to emergencies
- Utilize effective listening, verbal, nonverbal, and writing skills formally and informally
- Participate in orientation of new employees and provide patient education
Requirements
- 1 year of recent NICU experience within the past 12 months
- Function independently in Medical/Surgical, Adult and Pediatric Intensive Care areas and Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU)
- Graduate of an approved 2 year Respiratory Care Accrediting Board (RCAB) approved school, or 2 year Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) school
- Respiratory Care Practitioner License (California)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Certificate
Qualifications
- Graduate of an approved 2 year Respiratory Care Accrediting Board (RCAB) approved school, or 2 year Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) school
- 1 year of recent NICU experience within the past 12 months, functioning independently in Medical/Surgical, Adult and Pediatric Intensive Care, and Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) areas or 2 years recent experience in the Neonatal intensive Care Unit in the past 24 months functioning independently in ICU, ED, NICU.

- Sugar & Safe Care-Temperature-Airway-Blood Pressure- Lab Work-Emotional Support (S.T.A.B.L.E. Certification)
- 2 years recent experience in the Neonatal intensive Care Unit in the past 24 months
