Manage patients' physical therapy, evaluate dysfunctions, establish care plans, and administer treatments to restore functional abilities for individuals with medical problems, birth defects, or health-related conditions. This role focuses on clinical reasoning and adherence to established policies and guidelines while offering education and advice to patients and their families.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate patients and interpret examination findings to determine dysfunction extent
- Perform clinical testing to assess muscle strength, reflexes, sensation, coordination, range of motion, and other sensory motor skills
- Conduct clinical analysis and treatment of postural, gait, and ADL disorders
- Establish plans of care tailored to age, medical history, and dysfunction to achieve established goals
- Administer or prescribe modalities and other physical agents
- Administer or prescribe exercise programs and develop patient care programs
- Routinely take usual and special precautions relative to the patient's age, medical history, and condition
- Regularly reassess clinical signs and symptoms to determine treatment effectiveness and progression towards goals
- Implement treatment programs through direct patient treatment, delegating portions to supportive personnel when appropriate
- Coordinate treatment plans and participate in discharge planning with other healthcare personnel
- Provide advice and education to patients and their families
- Discharge patients from physical therapy services when skilled therapy is no longer medically necessary or clinically appropriate
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of physical therapy services according to State and Federal requirements
- Supervise PT assistants and PT aides for patient-related and non-patient-related tasks
- May be trained to cover a diverse patient population across various clinics (inpatient and outpatient settings).
Requirements
- Completion of an accredited PT training program with a Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy
- Physical Therapist License (California) required at hire OR Physical Therapist License - Applicant (California) required at hire
- National Provider Identifier required at hire
- Basic Life Support required at hire from American Heart Association
- Ability to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment
- If CA PT License Applicant (PTLA) or PT Aide Letter recipient: licensing exam must be passed within (120) days from letter date
Qualifications
- Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited PT training program
- Entry level with no specific experience stated as required
