The Emergency Department RN assesses, plans, directs, provides, and evaluates nursing care for patients, collaborating with the healthcare team and coordinating nursing activities with other disciplines.
Responsibilities
- Perform accurate multi-system assessments, including biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, education needs and discharge planning needs
- Identify deviations from normal on routine lab diagnostic tests and reassess patient throughout hospitalization
- Develop an individual nursing plan of care sensitive to the developmental needs of the patient
- Coordinate patient care activities and discharge planning with other hospital and clinic departments and community agencies
- Develop patient teaching plan and document on care plan or teaching plan
- Initiate appropriate measures based on protocol for the management of medical and/or surgical patients
- Carry out the physician's plan of care and accurately document in the EMR
- Accurately calculate and administer medications
- Initiate appropriate measures in emergency situations
- Evaluate assessment methods, plan of care, and patient's response to treatment
Requirements
- Minimum nine (9) months of RN experience
- One (1) year of current ED experience or successful completion of the Kaiser Permanente New Grad Internship Program in the ED
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Registered Nurse License (Oregon)
- Basic Life Support
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support
- Computer keyboarding skills
- Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (within 6 months of hire) OR Pediatric Advanced Life Support (within 6 months of hire)
- NIH Stroke Scale Certificate (within 3 months of hire)
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Minimum nine (9) months of RN experience; one (1) year of current ED experience or successful completion of Kaiser Permanente New Grad Internship Program in ED
Nice to Have
- Previous health care experience
- Bachelor's degree in nursing or related field
- CEN preferred
- TNCC preferred
- Demonstrated ability to recognize and interpret cardiac dysrhythmias
- A desire and ability to function within the nursing process
- Ability to use and apply effective communication and interpersonal relationship skills
