Emergency Department RN

About This Role

The Emergency Department RN assesses, plans, directs, provides, and evaluates nursing care for patients, collaborating with the healthcare team and coordinating nursing activities with other disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Perform accurate multi-system assessments, including biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, education needs and discharge planning needs
• Identify deviations from normal on routine lab diagnostic tests and reassess patient throughout hospitalization
• Develop an individual nursing plan of care sensitive to the developmental needs of the patient
• Coordinate patient care activities and discharge planning with other hospital and clinic departments and community agencies
• Develop patient teaching plan and document on care plan or teaching plan
• Initiate appropriate measures based on protocol for the management of medical and/or surgical patients
• Carry out the physician's plan of care and accurately document in the EMR
• Accurately calculate and administer medications
• Initiate appropriate measures in emergency situations
• Evaluate assessment methods, plan of care, and patient's response to treatment

Requirements

• Minimum nine (9) months of RN experience
• One (1) year of current ED experience or successful completion of the Kaiser Permanente New Grad Internship Program in the ED
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program
• Registered Nurse License (Oregon)
• Basic Life Support
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support
• Computer keyboarding skills
• Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (within 6 months of hire) OR Pediatric Advanced Life Support (within 6 months of hire)
• NIH Stroke Scale Certificate (within 3 months of hire)

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Minimum nine (9) months of RN experience; one (1) year of current ED experience or successful completion of Kaiser Permanente New Grad Internship Program in ED

Nice to Have

• Previous health care experience
• Bachelor's degree in nursing or related field
• CEN preferred
• TNCC preferred
• Demonstrated ability to recognize and interpret cardiac dysrhythmias
• A desire and ability to function within the nursing process
• Ability to use and apply effective communication and interpersonal relationship skills
