About This Role

This Research Senior Technician position supports scientific investigations into neuron-glia interactions and neurological diseases within the Department of Biological Chemistry and Pharmacology, conducting experiments, processing samples, and assisting with data analysis and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and support scientific investigation to study neuron-glia interactions and related neurological diseases
  • Independently conduct assigned experiments
  • Perform a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques including PCR, cloning, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures, and Western blot analysis
  • Sort and process tissue and blood samples
  • Test and evaluate current procedures
  • Perform routine procedures on lab animals
  • Utilize various imaging techniques
  • Record, consolidate, and assist with analysis of research results
  • Assist in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures
  • Summarize data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts
  • Prepare research progress reports
  • Assist principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts
  • Conduct library research on requested topics by researching current literature
  • Oversee and maintain accurate records of laboratory activities
  • Assist with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation
  • Set up and operate laboratory equipment
  • Monitor research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiate procurement requests

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required
  • Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 0 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree; 2 years of relevant experience required with Associate's Degree; 4 years of relevant experience required with High School diploma or GED.
