About This Role

Conduct independent research to advance the understanding of HIV/AIDS viral persistence and develop improved treatments. This role involves complex data analysis, manuscript preparation, and assisting with lab procedures and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform research independently or with minimal supervision, providing data for manuscripts and grants
  • Analyze complex data using statistical approaches to identify significant differences
  • Analyze and present journal articles at lab meeting
  • Edit, write and/or review manuscripts, grants, and budgets
  • Participate in assembling manuscripts and attending national meetings (depending on stage and productivity)
  • Assist graduate students and postdoctoral fellows with specialized lab procedures such as cloning, cell purification and flow cytometry
  • Purchase lab supplies/stocking and organizing lab
  • Negotiate discounts with vendors
  • Maintain lab equipment
  • Assist with regulatory and safety compliance

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in science
  • 4-5 years of experience (Intermediate Level)
  • 2-5 years experience with cell culture
  • Strong fundamental understanding of biology and chemistry
  • Working knowledge of laboratory best practices
  • Strong interest in and commitment to advancing our understanding of viral disease pathogenesis
  • Experience with expressing HIV proteins in lentiviral and defective HIV based vectors
  • Experience with purifying primary T cells from human peripheral blood
  • Experience with confocal microscopy
  • Experience with western blotting and cloning

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in science required, advanced degree beneficial.
  • 4-5 years of experience required (Intermediate Level), with 2-5 years experience with cell culture.

Nice to Have

  • Advanced degree beneficial
  • Experience with viral vectors including retroviral vectors
  • Experience with nucleic acid extraction and PCR
