Lead and organize a research project focusing on the effects of genetic variants and transcriptional control elements at Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) GWAS signals, with a specific emphasis on mitochondrial function in T2D disease-relevant cells/tissues. The role involves molecular biology, statistical genetics, functional genomics, and metabolic assays.
Responsibilities
- Organize and lead a research project studying T2D dysfunction and genetic associations involving mitochondrial biology pathways
- Serve as an expert in molecular biology, statistical genetics, functional genomics, or metabolic assays using Agilent Seahorse technology
- Contribute to other research projects within the laboratory
- Process human tissue samples and cultured cell lines for analysis
- Perform basic laboratory maintenance and upkeep
- Maintain compliance with University of Michigan safety and lab regulations
- Assist in developing research goals and provide input into procedures and research design
- Maintain laboratory records
- Contribute to manuscripts, grants, and presentations
Requirements
- B.S. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field
- 1-3 years of experience in a molecular biology lab setting
- Excellent cell culture skills
- Excellent cell metabolism skills
- Excellent PCR/qPCR skills
- Strong written communication skills
- Strong oral communication skills
- Ability to critically evaluate scientific literature
- Ability to present scientific literature
- English language proficiency
Qualifications
- B.S. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field
- 1-3 years of experience in a molecular biology lab setting
Nice to Have
- M.S. degree or higher
- Experience with Agilent Seahorse technology
