About This Role

The Registration Specialist coordinates all aspects of patient registration, including insurance verification and scheduling, while maintaining high accuracy in patient demographics and financial information. This role involves interviewing patients in person and over the phone, educating them on financial responsibilities, and collecting out-of-pocket fees.

Responsibilities

  • Interview patients to obtain pertinent demographic, insurance, and other information, ensuring a welcoming and positive experience
  • Verify that referring providers' orders are complete and match scheduled appointments, obtaining new orders if necessary
  • Scan insurance cards, scripts, patient identification, and all relevant documentation and regulatory forms accurately
  • Secure necessary signatures, including consents specific to services rendered, to ensure timely reimbursement
  • Determine and collect patient financial liability, create estimates, and refer patients to financial resources as needed
  • Review daily schedules to identify and resolve potential scheduling conflicts affecting department flow
  • Maintain compliance with registration accuracy standards

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1 year of customer service or healthcare environment experience
  • Proficiency in computer and typing skills
  • Ability to interact with a diverse customer base, including those seeking emergency services
  • Successful completion of required training in two attempts or less

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1 year of customer service or 1 year in a healthcare environment (hospital and/or physician office)

Nice to Have

  • Associate’s Degree in Health care or related field
  • 2 years of registration/insurance verification experience in a health care setting
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English
