About This Role

Provide specialized nursing care in the Intensive Care Unit, utilizing critical thinking and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. This role involves patient assessment, plan of care formulation, medication administration, and supervision of nursing activities.

Responsibilities

  • Complete patient assessments, formulate, oversee implementation, evaluate, and adjust plan of care utilizing critical thinking skills
  • Administer medication, intravenous therapy, and treatment as prescribed by a LIP
  • Supervise, delegate, and follow through with other personnel in the performance of activities relating to nursing care
  • Mentor and precept students and orient new staff as assigned
  • Report pertinent information up the chain of command (Clinical Nurse Manager/Nurse Manager/House Nurse Coordinator)
  • Participate on various teams, committees, or performance improvement initiatives
  • Ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, coworkers, and self
  • Participate in Discharge Planning and Transition of Care (able to define patient needs)
  • Serve as a patient advocate and escalate patient-related concerns timely
  • Timely document pertinent findings in medical record

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Minimum of one (1) year acute care nursing experience relevant to specific department
  • Operate critical care equipment such as respirators, temporary pacemakers, defibrillators, and other emergency equipment
  • Set-up, maintain, and interpret results of cardiac and hemodynamic monitor
  • Perform special procedures such as endotracheal and tracheostomy suctioning, tracheostomy care, extubation, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, arterial punctures, care of chest tubes and pleurevac
  • Manage specialty drips using approved protocols
  • Successfully complete critical care course and demonstrate mastery of equipment, diagnostic responsibilities, and procedures required of the critical care nurse prior to unit assignment
  • Registered Nurse license
  • Advanced Dysrhythmia/EKG Certification
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • BLS Certification
  • Advanced Life Support Certification
  • De-Escalation Training within 6 months of hire

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum of one (1) year acute care nursing experience, with relevant experience to the specific department. Experience with Electronic Health Record Preferred.
