This internship provides a unique educational pathway for Registered Nurses to transition into Neonatal Nurse Practitioners. It focuses on developing essential skills and knowledge for providing high-quality care to neonatal patients and facilitating communication among multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate care of acutely ill neonates in intensive care and acute care unit settings under direct supervision of a licensed Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
- Present pertinent data to medical staff
- Collect and interpret reports from diagnostic lab tests, radiographic procedures, and clinical studies
- Confer with attending physicians and communicate with other care providers/consultants to coordinate clinical care
- Streamline the patient transfer process between levels of care
- Attend high risk deliveries and assist with neonatal resuscitation activities
- Perform procedures and order entry once credentialed and privileged as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
Requirements
- Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with a Neonatal Specialty
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with a Neonatal Specialty
Nice to Have
- Demonstrated excellent verbal communication skills
- Ability to function under the direct supervision of a licensed NNP while assuring the medical care team is functioning smoothly and in collaboration with each other
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate clinical care ideas across multiple patient care services and to communicate as a patient advocate
- Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of current medical, surgical, and pharmaceutical treatment modalities of the acute and chronically ill neonates
