Registered Nurse - Lactation Consultant

About This Role

Provide competent care to both inpatient and outpatient clients as a Board Certified Lactation Consultant, teaching prenatal breastfeeding classes and facilitating support groups. This role involves utilizing the nursing process to assess patient needs, develop and implement individualized lactation plans of care, and provide compassionate nursing care.

Responsibilities

• Provide competent care to both inpatient and outpatient clients
• Teach prenatal breastfeeding classes
• Facilitate Baby&Me support groups
• Perform thorough admission assessment/reassessments in accordance with policy
• Identify and develop an individualized lactation plan of care and modify the plan with changes in the patient’s condition
• Identify and document patient/family/significant other teaching needs throughout the hospitalization
• Identify discharge planning needs of patient/family/significant other on initial assessment and throughout the hospitalization
• Ensure lactation documentation/plan is accurate and complete
• Utilize the eMAR system for expressed breast milk feeding; scanning all patient ID bracelets and all medications/expressed breast milk consistently
• Demonstrate knowledge of common medications and use with breastfeeding

Requirements

• Valid RN license in state of Massachusetts
• IBCLC certification

Qualifications

• 5 years of experience in similar role preferred
