This role involves providing comprehensive patient education and support for breastfeeding mothers in the postpartum unit and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The consultant will work collaboratively with nursing staff and other professionals to ensure continuity of information and care.
Responsibilities
- Provide patient education and support for breastfeeding mothers on the postpartum unit and those with infants in the NICU
- Make daily rounds, Monday through Friday, and be available electronically on weekends and after hours
- Focus on assisting first-time breastfeeding mothers and those with special needs
- Work collaboratively with nursing staff, medical officers, case managers, childbirth educators, clinical managers, and other ancillary staff to assure continuity of information provided to patients
- Complete unit and departmental annual skills checklists
- Serve as a resource person for patients and healthcare providers
- Assist in patient and staff education in all aspects of lactation management
Requirements
- Valid, active unencumbered Nursing license approved by the Georgia Licensing Board
- Current Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) Certification
- At least two years working as a clinical nurse
- At least two years working with lactation consulting
Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing
- At least two years working as a clinical nurse and at least two years working with lactation consulting
