This Medical Assistant I role involves performing clinical and administrative tasks to support patient care within a medical group setting. The position focuses on ensuring patient safety, maintaining confidentiality, and upholding professionalism in all interactions.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to Medical Assistant scope of practice and maintain training and competency based on area of specialty
- Perform rooming/visit tasks including vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, and screenings
- Assist provider with or perform procedures as ordered
- Perform lab related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection, and point of care testing
- Administer medications and vaccines safely following administration rights
- Perform other duties such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, and appointment scheduling
- Cross-train to perform duties relevant to specialty or clinic practice within Medical Assistant scope
- Demonstrate effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation
- Maintain a clean work environment, ensure instruments and equipment are cleaned and in working order, and areas are stocked
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Completion of an accredited or approved Medical Assistant program, or 2 years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years (for Floyd & Navicent)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) (to be obtained within 45 days unless department leader has determined it is not required)
- Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within Medical Assistant scope of practice
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, Windows OS navigation, and electronic mail
- Exposure to electronic medical records systems
- Customer service skills that support a positive patient experience
- Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or structured military clinical training (Floyd & Navicent division).
- No experience required as a Medical Assistant.
